Housing Market is Scary

Damn.
Been out of the market for 20+ years.
I didnt realize how bad getting reasonably priced accommodations was getting...

Places in my price range are either geographically undesirable  (too far of a commute for my blood pressure) or are just a shithole in general...

And if it is somewhat close to Downtown, and it isn't insanely overpriced, the neighborhood is bad.
Like really bad.
Like I'd walk down dark streets in NYC with $20 bills hanging out of my pockets just for excitement, and in these places I would need to be fully-armed - defcon 1 - condition red locked and loaded just to walk to (whats left of) my car every morning.

Yikes.

What's your price range and commute limit?

The Lovely Harvey does about an hour commute from SW Pasco county to Tampa every day because of the price difference in housing.

Hillsborough and Pinellas counties are much pricier.

Yep, it's even uglier than Jax is...

@McThag
My preferred commute is "crawling distance", and my budget is "as little as possible".
But, since its just me, and I can live comfortably in a shoebox in the middle of a lake, I'd have thought it was going to be easier to find a place.
I'll find one, it's just going to be that wheat/chaff thing.

@O'NFO-
Yeah, they are right proud of their city here.

I have a friend who's fairly well connected with local real estate, he might be of some help.

Alas, I don't seem to have a direct means to contact you so as to put you two together.
