Sunday Matinee (No spoilers here)

I made my monthly foray to contribute to the Entertainment Industry's bottom line by taking in a movie.
I had originally planned on seeing Avatar, but after recent revelations regarding Cameron's script notes, I decided to say FTMF and go see something a little more apocalyptic - The Book of Eli.

Just a couple things -

- I loves the Sunday Matinee at Regal- all movies are 5 bucks.
Awesome.

- They are obviously making their dough at the concession counter.
12 bucks for a medium drink and a medium popcorn?
Let me do the ROI on the fountain drink, cup, popcorn and paper bag they serve it in... Add that, multiply those, carry the seven...
11.97 profit on a 12 dollar sale.
Hmmm.
FTMF too.

- 7, count 'em- 7 previews.
26 minutes of coming attractions.
And only one of which I'd probably see.
(Shutter Island)

And finally-

In regards to The Book of Eli-
GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

One thing I learned when my room mate owned a movie theater years back. First run movie theaters get... 0% of ticket sales. Yup. As in if you don't buy popcorn and a soda, they've made nothing at all.
Second and third run theaters get up to 65% for their ticket sales, so their popcorn and soda is a bit more reasonable.

WARNING... SPOILER ALERT... DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW DETAILS ABOUT THE MOVIE AVATAR.

Ok, so I went to see Avatar, and despite the obvious political, etc messages, enjoyed it immensely. We'll call it Fern Gully meets Dances with Wolves meets Zulu Dawn.

I've now read the script notes and I just have to say... typical liberal nutcase. He's so far skewed in his beliefs that he doesn't realize that he has written exactly the opposite of what he is trying to portray. In his scenario, the miners go along with what the goverment tells them to do. The Corporation and soldiers ARE the government, the miners are the mindless liberal minions. The locals are able to fight back and win only because they are armed and trained and when they are pushed hard enough they band together in a totally grassroots effort to take back their homes and protect families/way of life from their oppressors. umm, gee...THEY are the conservatives/NRA/teabagger types. If the locals were 'good little liberals' then they would have just moved when they were told to, and IF they wanted to resist they would have been unable to do so being unarmed and untrained.

Thank You James Cameron for proving our point so well, even if you didn't realize you what you were doing.
