Bulkhead Seating - Pros & Cons

A Letter from Row 4, seat C:

Bulkhead-on-Aisle seating is a mixed blessing...

Pro - A tiny bit more knee-room.
Con - A tiny bit less foot-room since there is a wall instead of a seat in front of you.

Pro - Quick Exit from plane.
Con - 15 extra bucks for that seat.

Pro - No seat in front of you, so no one can crush your knees when they lean back.
Con - The row can be crowded with frequent fliers who are tall and/or big and know the benefit of the Bulkhead row.

Pro - Zone 1 Boarding - You get on early and there is plenty of room for your bag in the overhead compartment.
Con - You get a bruised right shoulder from everyone else's carry-on bag hitting you as they pass by on the way to the back of the plane.

Pro - First Service for on-board beverages and (so-called) meals.
Con - Very few carriers serve meals on domestic flights any more.
(No big loss there, eh?)

Pro - Banter with the Flight Attendant as she does the pre-flight briefing can be entertaining... See if you can get her to laugh by mimicking her hand gestures as she shows the exits - "Two in the front of the plane, two over the wings, and one in the rear of the aircraft."
Con - Getting your ginger ale "accidently" spilled on you if you pushed your witticisms too far...or (heaven forbid) if you called her a "stewardess".

Pro - In case of an emergency evacuation there are less people between you and the exit at the front of the plane, and biz class people TEND to be softer and easier to bulldoze than the tough and travel-hardened road warriors back in steerage.
Con - The plane is being ditched or crashing. - isn't that enough of a con?

Pro - Less passenger compartment engine noise at the front of the plane.
Con - Increased chance of being seated near an infant/child and all the included blessings therein...yelling, screaming, throwing toys & food, projectile vomiting, chemical warfare in the form of dirty diapers, incessant yammering, and the urge to throttle parents that think little Snowflake's reaction to her first airplane ride is just precious...

Don't get me started on that...
I could go on and on.

Oh well...
Next stop, Charlotte.
One step closer to LA.

Two comments - 1. You're coming to Charlotte and you didn't tell me. I would have waved to you as you flew over my house (depending on the flight pattern) 2. Sometimes it pays to be little! Suck it up "Big Guy!"
