Jeebus, The Fanbois Are Freaking Out...

A photo of the Beorn character has been leaked from the next Hobbit installment, and the purists are having kittehs!

That's a pretty sweet Mul-Hawk he's sportin'...

The folks on Twitter/Twitchy are going full-goose bozo discussing book-to-screenplay-to-movie translations based on a grainy still.

How about a big mug o' NerdChill for y'all?
Just wait for the frackin' movie to come out before you start slitting your wrists or Peter Jackson's throat because a character doesn't meet your criteria, hmmm?

  1. "Mul Hawk", heh.

That said, I'd think that Beorn would ride a Ducati ...

  2. Look, if you don't CARE that it's all WRONG, that's your own look out...

I hate realizing that am such a nerd, but the character has a description in the book and it does not evoke that image (assuming that is indeed a screen shot of Beorn).

Besides, I have two word why we shouldn't waste any more time on Mr Jackson's interpretation of The Hobbit, "Scrotum Beard."

  3. On the other hand, I am glad they've decided to include the character because I enjoyed the portion of the book he's in.

This entire enterprise has been on gigantic geek-service adventure. It's a great deal more about the appendices to The Lord of the Rings than The Hobbit.

Jackson has, to me, made the classic book conversion blunder and started making up his own stuff rather than merely presenting the material. It's got to be a great addition or departure from the original work or it will be noticed and resented by the people who love the book, and in the case of JRR Tolkien, there's geeks who are in their 90's watching. The farther he departs from the source material the more it will be noticed and the louder the cries of anguish.

    @Angus-
    Re: Scrotum Beard etc
I understand what you're saying and you have a point...
The Ballchinian Goblin King was played strictly for laughs.
(For the same reason there are so many poop and fart jokes in movies these days.)

And the roller-coaster ride through the goblin tunnels was way off the point too...
In my opinion it was an attempt at an edge-of-the-seat excitement moment that was unneeded.

I guess when a movie is made audiences have to live with departures from the original materials.
I would have liked to see the Scouring of the Shire, and the death of Saruman was a bit of a cop-out in the movie...

But- did we lose much when Farmer Maggot didn't make the final cut? Or Tom Bombadil?
(DGMW- Iarwain Ben-adar was one of my favorite characters- and his history predates everyone in LOTR. Why wasn't he in there?)

Regardless - as moviegoers we take what we're given - after all- look what we got in the late 70's-
    Ralph Bakshi's rendition of LOTR?
Wow, that was a steaming pile, eh?
    (Although I did like "Wizards")

  5. I don't have OCD, I can quit whenever I want.

That picture is a single still frame.

It occurs that it could be a cap of Beorn in mid-transformation back from being a bear.

If so it's a great example of the fanbois going off half cocked.

Tweaked the anti-spam settings a bit.
Let's see if this does the trick.
