Butchering Shakespere - a Request for Donations
"A nose by any other name would smell as sweet."
Most of the folks that wander through this pitiful little corner of the Int3rw3bz know who Tam is.
In addition to the fact that 'View from the Porch' is one of the primary reads on my RSS feed, I feel privileged to say I have had the pleasure of her company on a couple of occasions.
I made the trek to Hoosierland at times that coincided with Indy Blogmeets and had some great times, and met even greater people.
(I think her recollection of the encounter might be characterized thus: "Yeah- I think he was that dumbass from Florida that blocked my view of the entire right side of the table that time...")
Regardless-
Tamara has a touch of basal cell carcinoma in her nose. When it come to carcinoma, if you going to get one, that's the kind to get... It still sucks, and it's no walk in the park, but as much as that sucks, it sucks way worse when you don't have health insurance. Which she does not.
And if you are have to pay for things out of your pocket, just a visit to the doc is a real bite in the ass, where actually having a practitioner to practice his art is OMFG!1eleventy expensive!
Several Bloggers have taken up the cause - especially some guys that I hold in high esteem- my man McThag is running an auction- go check out his goods here... Zercool has got a giveaway going on, And the inestimable OldNFO is having a raffle...Go... Participate.
Some folks have opined that if Tam happened to be visiting in your vicinity, there is no doubt that you'd spring for a dinner to show local hospitality, and if that's the case, why not contribute that amount to the cause?
It's simple...
Just go to her page and hit the donate button...
Easy peasy...
Look- as my man Matt says- we need her more than she needs us...
Every little bit helps.
I have been checking the couch cushions and the different nooks and crannies that collect spare change...
I'm heading down to Coinstar to convert 74 pounds of change into medicine...
If you are so inclined, the Blogospere would appreciate any help you can extend.

Cell Phone Issues
Had cell phone issues yesterday morning.
Phone would ring then reboot. When I'd make a call it would go through all the motions including the "you are connected- go ahead" beep, but I would never hear anything.
It was working- I called the home phone, it rang - but I never heard the connection or ring on the cell phone end. Hmm.
It took a hard reset- remove the battery for 30 seconds then restart- to get it working again.
That fixes most issues.
Now that I reflect on it- even that didn't work with the last mobile phone issue I had...
I removed the battery and restarted-
Nope- no change...
The reboot didn't fix it.

Russian Refugees in Jax Beach
I have 5 old Russian refugees that have taken up residence at Casa de la Oscura Amenaza.
...fortunately they are documented immigrants.
My man Chuck got a stack of Mosin Nagant 91/30s...
He said he'd give me a good price if I bought the lot...
I juggled the finances for the next month and came up with the number, plus a bit for tax and such and Bob's your uncle- 5 old Russian ladies are sitting in the workshop.
From initial research it looks like the are all Tulas, 3 of them are pre-WWII and the other two are mid-'40s. The came with the full complement of goodies- bayonets, cleaning kits, dog collars and slings...
I broke down two of them immediately and started the tedious task of removing the cosmoline and other preservatives and will begin stripping and refinishing the stocks today...
The end game is to get them to display condition then build a gun crate/coffee table with a glass top.

Living My Life Like a Song - Part 3
Sometimes the lights all shining on meAnother OMFG-30 flight this morning...
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long strange trip its been.
- Truckin' - Grateful Dead
As I headed to the airport this morning, I reflected on the fact that heading to the airport at 4am was not unreasonable.
For me it has become so common that it borders on cliche.
How did I get to the state that I dress and pack to adhere to an invasive Government entity's notion of "safe and proper"...
It boggles my poor aching head that I find TSA and Airline bullshit acceptable.
For all my iconoclast beliefs, and my desire to be independent and not one of the sheeple, I sure felt like one as I stood in line to get microwaved and have my balls juggled this morning.
I mentioned to a coworkers the other day that I needed to keep an eye out for an opening as a greeter at Wal-Mart, since that day is soon coming when a TSA agent will grab my junk a little too roughly and I'll light him up like a slot machine paying off in nickles. At that point I'll be needing something else to pay the bills since I will be useless to The Company at that point.
Not sure I'd miss it...
The travel is a pain, but I've seen some cool stuff and been to some great places, but the trade off is getting a little too expensive for my psyche.
And I'm getting to old to keep paying the toll on this road.
A long strange trip indeed.

Randomness, and a Partial Explanation
Yeah, I know.
I'm scum. Anyone will tell you.
I was in the middle of a couple multi-part posts, and trying to do some justice to the DAB, and then I disappear off the face of the Earth.
Except for a long-ago scheduled Halloween post, L2UJ has been on hiatus.
Sorry.
Since I was last on the air there has been much going on in the world...
I spent 14 hours on an airplane, got called an "oversized Woody Harrelson", made a grown man piss his pants, spent another 28 hours traveling, spent a couple days herding cats in the Amway Center in Orlando, entertained a houseful (Yours Truly, The Woman & the Dark Menace, plus 4 additional adults and 2 extra dogs) for four days, and took a short trip to the wilds on North Florida to visit with Ol' Sarge. (Like I hadn't just spent 2 weeks looking at his ugly mug.)
On a somewhat less solipsistic view there is a good number of things going on...
Hurricane Sandy, Fla-Ga Weekend, Halloween, and the upcoming election.
(You DO know there is an election coming up? I know that it might have slipped your mind since His Serene Majesty the Emperor Barack Hussein Obama II, Lord of the Flies, Keeper of the Hoops, Master of the Greens, Bringer of Kinetic Military Action, Vacationer-in-Chief, Slayer of Osama, and Protector of the Holy Cities of Honolulu and Chicago has been campaigning since late 2010...)
Much more important than any of this is the fact more and more evidence is coming out that basically, the Obama Administration were warned about an imminent hostile action, and subsequently ignored repeated calls for assistance, and then abandon a group of Americans who were in harms way.
As I often say when discussing the current occupant of the residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,
He's a fraud, a charlatan, a narcissistic steaming pile of shit.
FTMF.
(And this is what happens every time I try to sit down and do a little blogging...
Things go OK for a few paragraphs then reality intrudes and my frustration with current events kicks in and I go off on a tangent that becomes a tirade against our current chief executive.
Gah.)
So...let me share a little liberal media head-scratcher with you...
Since Nanny Bloomberg won't let the National Guard in to trouble areas with their weapons, it seems that local residents are taking up arms...Bats, machetes, and some weird firearms that I'd love to get a look at...
From The New York Post...
Brooklyn Bat Man: Run, Looters!
Could it be...?
Great googly moogly!
It would be pretty cool if someone in NooYawk has that beast on hand for home defense.
Ok... I'm going to try to get back to cranking out the free ice cream...

Brooklyn Bat Man: Run, Looters!
“I’m prepared inside here,” the 76-year-old Aviles said, showing off his rusted, three-foot machete and warning he had a gun.Is this a typical NY writer's ignorance and propensity for stringing words together... Or...
Chris Lane, a 50-year-old resident of the Coney Island Houses, put together a small arsenal with his double pump action gun. Lane said he scared off a bunch of thugs skulking around the hallways of his building when the storm struck Monday night.
Could it be...?
